what really, really cracks me up is that knowing that Republicans (willing to identify themselves as such, anyway) constitute a small minority on lj liberals aren't satisfied to let the rare dissenter be. no, any Republican initiates an attack and destroy mission. it's absurd.

it doesn't bother me, because i don't care what people think about me. but i feel sorry for people like the OP in 132. he or she should be able to say whatever he or she wants without having to face a shitstorm.

First of all, not all of us liberals rush into a fight. I try not to.

Second, and I know that this is not excuse for anyone to condemn anyone else for what they believe, but a lot of us happen to be liberals who live in Conservativetown USA who are constantly attacked (either directly or indirectly) for what we believe by the people around us, even by the people in our own families. So I imagine that coming to a place like LJ may be a little overwhelming for some, and we fly off the walls giving back treatment we've received lots of IRL. I realize that this is absolutely no excuse, but goddamn, I gotta tell you that it's a huge relief to realize that other liberals aren't mythological beings.

I agree that everyone should be able to say what they believe without other people reacting like retards. But I don't feel sorry for the OP in 132 because chances are very, very good that the only place they feel apprehensive about revealing their political leanings is on the internet.

I think you have to take into account that 1) the majority of the people on these here intarwebs are liberal, and 2) many of the people on the intarwebs are assholes. It only stands to reason that there would be more asshole liberals than asshole conservatives, since there are more liberals to begin with. SOME liberals aren't satisfied letting the dissenter be. These would be those under the "asshole" category.

And besides, both sides can be snippy, self-righteous attack dogs at times. In Republican-dominated forums, the same thing happens, only in reverse. It's ridiculous.
