First off, Escaflowne love!

I think the ending makes more sense for her to go back then for her to stay other then the fact that a 16 year old girl giving up her whole world family after what was probably a bit of a traumatic experience for her (thus no time to make big life changing decisions) would have made me extremely uncomfortable.

But they should have at least been able to make out before she got sent home.

Valid points. Then again, I thought Sarah in Labyrinth was an idiot for going back to the real world, so maybe I just have a desire to transcend worlds and shack up with a hot guy foreverXD And YES, there so should have been sloppy makeouts. SOMETHING to appease the fans, y'know?

I don't know, i disagree with a lot of the comments here about how it was a cheat or a cop out. I actually think it was the perfect ending, but I really love bittersweet endings and such. I mean yeah it sucks that she didn't stay and they couldn't be together, but it wasn't really a cop out or a cheat, if they had kept her there it would have been called to convenient or sappy or trite. Fushigi Yugi's ending was a cheat, cheapest happy ending ever.

I don't know, I think that ending is more emotional and compelling to me then the traditional happy ending would have been.
