I've tried to read a couple. I think there might be some chemistry there that I just can't see myself?

Me neither, especially when there's a far more obvious choice for Xi hen in canon. But maybe it's a case of pairing the opposites?

I can sort of see it in a 'giving them nice things' way since they both go through a lot of crap in the show, but honestly... I really can't see them being compatible at all, and at least in CQL they come off as politely disinterested in one another at best, I suppose some people can work with that but it's about as riveting as watching paint dry for me insofar as ship-potential goes.

~~And tbh if I was gonna give LXC nice things I'd resurrect JGY for him and smuggle them both away into a life of obscurity~~.

It's pair the spare syndrome from writers who need to couple up absolutely everyone no matter how wildly OOC and who think it's cute cos omg their brothers are a canon couple so they have to be a couple too! Can't speak for other versions but in CQL they barely interact apart from war stuff and sect leadery stuff which are basically business meetings. If they actively hated each other, then playing with that dynamic might be interesting but they seem indifferent at best.

Same. SAME. And usually I love the sort of opposites attract energy that should be going on here, but it just doesn't do it for me and I don't really get it. I almost felt like I got it after reading Monotone, but that's the only fic I can say that for.

(On the other hand, LXC & NMJ? Now there's an opposites attract ship that's right up my alley.)

yeah i don't get this ship at all.

if ppl don't want to deal with the messy tangle of LXC/JGY, then NMJ is right there being perfectly shippable with LXC too. yet that seems to be pretty unpopular as well which is boggling considering that those two actually have a relationship to speak of.

I'll take LXC/NMJ (and LXC/JGY and 3zun), and let JC live happily with his aroace self and a repaired relationship with his brother.

I think NMJ is perfectly hunky as he is, but it is absolutely true that if he was played by a waify pretty-boy he'd be a lot more popular and LXC/NMJ would be bigger.

Awww. He's plenty pretty, but the mustache and constant angry expression tends to take the shine off it, IMO.

I actually forget that the two of them interact in CQL because their dynamic is that unremarkable. Finding out this was LXC's most popular ship was flabbergasting let me tell you.

It's his most popular ship? Wow. I thought for sure people would be alllllll over LXC/JGY.

LXC/JGY has it's fans, but it still lags behind LXC/JC substantially and the twitter side of things is absolutely far more into that than LXC/JGY(or LXC/NMJ). Though I think LXC/JGY is fairly popular in the Chinese part of the fandom?

I can fully understand LXC/JGY being off-putting to an extent because JGY really is such a piece of work by the end, but given the kinds of fucked-up hero/villain ships that exist in various fandoms I'm surprised it's as small as it is(especially given, well everything about their interactions tbh).

NAYRT - Personally, I'll only read a LXC/JGY fic if it's set in a canon divergent/complete AU verse because of how it got at the end.

I mostly just want LXC to be happy, and JGY showed his feelings in the end so I won't feel bad about it.

Honestly, I thought that between all the heart-eyes between them in the series would be enough to launch the Titanic, and woobifying a villain for the purpose of shipping has never been an obstacle for fandom in general. I'm really surprised.

I really don't understand this. JGY and NMJ are right there for LXC. And the same for WQ with JC!

I don't mind NHS with JC as much, because at least they had way more interactions and were friends when they were younger.

Yeah they've both got ship-options that make way more sense and actual substance to work with, and people can ship what they want but I am going to be confused as hell by it considering there's really nothing there in that dynamic.

JC/WQ were cute as shit okay and I'm always going to feel so bad for them, they just wanted to be young and in-love. :(

I feel like JC would have been much calmer as a person if he'd been topped by WQ just one time (and I so wish there was fic of that)

It's pair the spares meets pair the brothers of the main ship. And it existed for the novel fandom as well where they actually never interacted once.
I don't particularly like LXC/JGY and am fairly indifferent about NMJ/LXC but those would make more sense. But I shouldn't complain, considering my LXC ship of choice is a rareship that would probably fall under the pair the spares umbrella for some people as well. Still makes more sense than ChengXi.

As for SangCheng... I'm okay with it because they at least know each other from their youth.

Saaaame. I was super surprised when I saw how popular they are (in western fandom at least)... but on the other side, I also ship Jin Ling and Sizhui so I guess I can't judge? ._.

Idk, Jin Ling and Sizhui have plenty of interaction at the very least.
