Reading through some of the comments...

I ready, 9/10 times, het fic, and...I guess depending on the fandom the bar is adjusted. A pairing I like currently has major youth writing this vibes lol I don't begrudge it at all! I just adjust my taste or pack my bags and keep searching for more (my current pairing has a bunch of fics on wattpad, but the quality is...I don't know if I can adjust my standards accordingly, tbh. Slugging through ff.net currently, as the pickings on AO3 were paltry and I don't do tumblr with these brief little "imagines" and shit...ugh. I want a full length novella. PLEASE.)


I then also consider what I think was a truly great het fic (I'm racking my mind right now) and one of them was a Dramione fic, another was a super lengthy Hermione/Tom time travel fic and those are just off the bat ones I thought were SO good. Also a Sess/Kag fic. And a MAster/Martha fic too.

Also, are you looking for something lemony (heh, couldn't resist using the term), something slowburn, etc. Because Sometimes I'll find really good smut, other times, really good oneshots (so sad when they're over). What are the dynamics you're looking for?

Resmiranda’s Sess/Kag made the ship for me. I might even say that I’m a fan of her writing more than of the pairing, but strangely when she writes other fandoms I’m not terribly interested.

I think we're referring to the same fic. It was so good. The character growth/staying IC, world building, use of folklore, everything, just...everything about that fic (I think it was one of the first Sess/Kags I ever read, or at least the one that also solidified the pairing as --this can be good/believable if done well).

Yeah, that's about how my current experience is going. Lots of short drabbles and more on wattpad and ff than AO3. I just want longer fics on a readable website.

I prefer slower burn stories with actual plot. I don't mind reading oneshots for variety but I am ultimately looking for long fics. The romance is more important than the sex to me.

The dynamics? I don't think I have a set preference. I don't like the erotic novel stereotype alpha male/woman who thinks abuse is romantic. But intellectual equals? Enemies to allies? Pretty much every other trope if written well? Yes please.

I read a lot of great Mulder/Scully fic back in the day. I don't have any recs and I was still fairly young myself at the time, but it was a juggernaut pairing with a ton of fic.

If OP needs XF recs, Google is her friend. There are still folks writing fic and reccing it, too, mostly on Tumblr. Penumbra posted a new fic to AO3 a while back, which I liked a lot. Heuvelmans' On the Track (https://archiveofourown.org/works/24371170/chapters/58777492). New pen name but that's Penumbra.

Off the top of my head, there was good het fic for Fringe, Timeless, Longmire, Star Trek Voyager, and many others. I got recs from het_reccers until it folded in 2018 but there are many, many pairings and tropes to explore.
