I only recently found out about "cottagecore" and yeah, that's my cup of tea! Don't know about dark academia but I'd probably like that, too. It conjures up images of gothic libraries.

Both aesthetics are lush and totally my thing. I just hate the terms used for them lol.

Dark Academia is basically being a grunge student at Oxford in the dead of winter as far as I can tell.

Same here! I like Cottagecore and also found out about Goblincore through it, which I also think is cute (unfortunately it seems to be rife with drama over the term 'goblin' on Tumblr).

Are they saying it's anti-Semitic? I came across that somewhere recently (I think on Reddit, I know it wasn't Tumblr, anyway) where people are saying that "goblin" was an old slur for Jewish people (although I've never heard that, despite half my family being Jewish).

Goblins allegedly were used as a caricature for Jews (with all the antisemitic classics all in one package: mean, shifty, ugly, big nosed, money hoarding). But idk. I think if you start banning fantasy creatures based on what/who they might be caricatures of we'd probably not have a whole lot left.
