Love me some bright, saturated colors. Not neon, just pure color. I've been watching a lot of movie musicals from the 1950s and 1960s lately, and I can't get enough of how vibrant everything is. I've got a lot of aqua/turquoise decor in my apartment, and I was one of the 12 people that watched Pushing Daisies when it was on TV because it was so visually pleasing. :D

Hey that's great nonny. :D I'm actually the complete opposite and I live in an echo chamber of people who, like me, love the scandi white walls, wood floors thing. So I rarely hear about other stuff.

What do you love about it? Bright colours make me feel emotionally drained. Do they make you feel energised?

AYRT - Yeah, I think that's a good way of putting it! I don't know if "melodrama" is the exact word I want, but that's the best way I can think to say it, that I like the melodrama of bright colors. It's like an exaggerated version of reality, and I think it's exciting and fun. :D

That's really interesting. :D I need to draw my energy from calm and quiet I guess. How do pale and neutral colour schemes affect you? I'm guessing it's the opposite and you find them drab and they quash your energy a little?

AYRT - Yeah, lack of colors makes me feel drained but also anxious, and as I was thinking about that, I realized I spent a lot of time in hospitals growing up. I wonder how much of a factor that played in what I want from a 'happy' environment. (Wow we're unlocking all kinds of stuff here tonight! :D)

We really are! It's all fascinating though. :D I guess the inevitable next question is do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert?

I always wondered if my love of calm colours was because i'm an introvert. :)

new to this thread

Sorry, I'm not the person you were talking to before, but thought this was an interesting question so hopefully it's okay to chime in!

I love bright/neon colors (pastels and jewel tones, too, to a lesser degree) and I'm totally an introvert. I just find them happy and cheerful.

AYRT Not at all, welcome to the thread!

Ooh interesting. Do you like them like the original commenter - you would happily decorate with them? Or do you like a pop of colour?

Definitely! For whatever reason, my living room is the only room in my house that I really decorated with a specific theme, but it's got a good amount of bright colors. The couch and loveseat are black, but I have a rug that's bright pink, yellow, lime green, and turquoise, and then pink and green throw pillows. I also have a turquoise throw that lives on the back of the couch and a little table that has wrought-iron type black legs, with a wooden top that I painted turquoise.

The other rooms kind of just have small bits of color here and there. I'll always get colorful kitchen accessories if I have the option (I have a turquoise mixer and also this grater/slicer thing that's turquoise, but they're a paler shade than the one in the living room) and I have dishes in bright colors (green, turquoise, coral). I also have some sheets and pillowcases in brighter colors (hot pink, turquoise, brighter blue) but the fabric isn't quite as soft as the darker ones I have so I don't tend to use them as often.

AYRT, and I'm also an introvert! I like having my own space to recharge, and maybe the colors play a part in that. :D

I love the aesthetic of Pushing Daisies, too, but I like stuff a bit more jewel toned around my house. I hate the minimalist "50 Shades of Beige" aesthetic with my whole soul," though, even though I like natural wood furniture and houseplants and wood floors.

I feel like you can have a warm and welcoming minimalist room without the beige effect. It just takes skill.

AYRT--yeah, I'm sure it's possible, although even brightly colored minimalism probably isn't my thing, since every space I occupy ends up a jumble of fabric shop, greenhouse, library, and, well, Howl's bedroom in the Howl's Moving Castle film.
