I don't think it's skeevy regardless of anything else, but I also think that skeeviness is often associated with the idea of eroticism.

"I identify as a girl" rather than "I'm a girl"...yea, you're skeevy.

The skeevy is part of the kick of the kink?

I feel like it would be hard to have a prostitution kink if you had any experience with sw or any loved ones who'd done it but u do u I guess boo. 99.9% of fan works I've seen dealing with sex work are, uh...not very good. So be aware that your view of sw is super skewed.

If you know a lot about it outside fandom and still find it hot that's I guess your business but woof

I think for a lot of people that have a prostitution kink, it's a bit like having a rape or dub-con kink in the sense that there's something about the way the scenario plays out in fiction, or in a real-life role-play with someone you trust, which is appealing but has little if anything to do with the actual thing in reality. Like, I've read some fic that deals with prostitution, and it's usually just a vehicle for hurt/comfort or an excuse to do sex first, feelings later (or never).

+1 As with all kinks, I don’t think they want realism.

Well... guys can be prostitutes too? I mean, I know it's not the point and like 99% of hookers are women, but like... uh, yeah.

Really though, there is an allure to anonymous sex and the ability to get off then walk off. So technically there can be angles where it doesn't need to be that skeevy, depending on what you're getting from it.

I mean take it from a girl who get's propositioned, and gets asked 'if I'm working?' all the time. (well like only six times, but considering I'm not actually a prosti nor do I dress like one, I'd say that's a lot?) Personally it doesn't bother me, and the one time the guy was super nice/sorry about it and we talked for like five full minutes without him being about it. So... uh, yeah. Thinking about it now, I think I'm gonna need to make better choices from now on...

My main question would be whether a person with a prostitution kink was actually hiring the services of sex workers, and if so, 1. are they making the effort to hire from a reputable agency, and 2. how are they treating the sex workers they hire?

I don’t inherently have a problem with people who hire the services of sex workers. But I do worry about the sex workers. I worry about how they’re being treated by their clients, and by the people behind the scenes who deal with the money side of things. And I think a client who has no concern for whether their sex worker is in an abusive situation is skeevy.

If you’re not interested in hiring the services of an actual real life sex worker, then I’m not sure it matters that you kink on them and their business. And I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with kinking on the idea of sex work in fiction.

I would say all of this same stuff if you identified as a man.
