God, I love re-reading my fic. I thrill over how clever I am every time. Sick, I know.

I aspire to have your attitude towards my fic, anon.

NAYRT Really? Because you can usually tell if an author is like this and it's usually not to the benefit of their stories. Plus they're usually the authors who never improve and stay this kind of flatline mediocre.

Same, secretly. But then I despair over how I never finish anything. My work ethic keeps me humble.

I used to LOVE rereading my own fic. I would always feel so impressed with myself, and like I was a literary genius or something.

Then, at some point, my critical mind took over, and I mostly stopped writing. Now, when I do write, I hate rereading my work. All I see are the weaknesses, the failings, and the flaws. My work just seems so weak and inadequate.

It's weird that I went from one extreme to another. If only I could settle somewhere in the middle, I'd be so much happier, and a better writer, too.

I got a comment recently on an old one-off fic that I had forgotten pretty much everything about, and I genuinely enjoyed re-reading it and finding what the plot was as if I hadn't written the thing. In general I tend to find a lot of my porn a bit cringe-y to go back to once I've gotten the idea out of my system, but some of the PG stuff that's focussed on humour or character development or non-sexual feelings is pretty great to revisit.
