To me it depends on the attitude of the person pairing the female love interest with another female character. If they make it seem like an equally important ship for them when they clearly don’t prioritize it at all, then yeah, eyeroll. Or if they repeatedly point to it in a, “look, see, I ship femslash too, I’m totally woke” kind of way, then sure, that can definitely be tiresome.

But if the person doesn’t make it out to be more than it is, I don’t think there’s anything remotely wrong with pairing the spares femslash style. Like, I generally only really care about my OTP; whatever secondary pairings an author writes into the fic don’t tend to be a big deal to me one way or the other. But if someone feels like pairing the canon female love interest with another female character, I’m generally like, sure, that’s cool. Pair her with a lady, pair her with a dude, pair her with a lady and a dude, say she’s single and happy about it--it’s all good.

I agree. And at least she's not dead or an evil bitch who "gets what's coming to her" in the end.
