I am not too into the idea of testing levels, tbh. Subject/interest makes more sense, but of course, most schools need to be run on a shoestring these days and we're not allowed to offer variety the way we'd like.

yeah, I know. Understandable. My mom was a teacher so I know how badly schools are hamstrung by budgets and "requirements." I think I only mentioned testing because ours had a track where you could literally test out of lower level classes - prove, essentially, that you didn't need to slog through the basics because you already knew them. but I understand that most school districts probably don't have that sort of program, nor the luxury. boy, do I know it.

We couldn't even do it for our ESL students who tested lower at first because they didn't speak the language and now speak it perfectly fine. It's ridiculous.
