I was kinda saying this the other day, but I think we (as a society) do a pretty bad job at disentangling different kinds of affection. The fact that these two people, whoever they are, have this deep connection doesn't say anything about whether or not they'd date each other. They could have the deepest, most intimate affection for each other, without that affection being in any way romantic or sexual. So you're not necessarily wrong about their connection, regardless of the RPF shippiness of it all.

(but also, of course, maybe they would date each other - who knows?)

Sorry,

But it does sound kind of delusional. Especially since I went through several RPF ships in my head that I've heard similar things about.

Even setting aside how much some celebrities seem to honestly delight in trolling other people, many celebrities really enjoy any sort of positive attention and will absolutely play to it, along with having fun with it since flirting and innuendo can be so entertaining, and doing it with someone they have genuine affection for and someone who, you know, gets it and volleys back is awesome and can create some amazing chemistry. But that doesn't mean there's any actual romantic feelings there.

I'm intrigued as to what fandom this is (I initially thought Supernatural but now I'm thinking it doesn't fit the secret).
You may get a pileon here from other lurkers, which is a shame (as in "how dare you have an interest in the sexuality of a celebrity or who they want to be with other than their stated preference"). As long as you're not actively harassing the people or allowing the idea of these two to be an obsession (which is true of overindulging in any type of fandom), I don't see the problem with indulging in a bit of harmless fun. People enjoy talking about and speculating about celebrities. That's why gossip mags are so popular. Obviously these two are really good friends, maybe there is an attraction there. We'll probably never know and that's where the fun is. Again, as long as you're not allowing it to be an obsession or actively trying to contact said celebs or partners to harass them (again thinking of Supernatural) I say it's fine.

This line of thinking tends to get a lot of pushback these days, but honestly... eh, I think it's fine. There's nothing wrong with speculating and thinking about things and having headcanons about real people. You're not hurting anyone with your thoughts and IMO, people should calm the hell down about it.
