Ah Jiang Cheng. Have you read the book or any of the author's interviews? I particularly like the one where she says Jiang Cheng will never get married because he has a bad personality. XD

He's one of the characters makes The Untamed refreshing media for me, precisely because he does have a bad personality and there's no crude plot dynamic of 'the main character brings out his best and redeems him'. Nope. He loves Wei Wuxian as a brother, he tries to do his best, but he still has a shite personality and an anger management problem.

1000% agreed

LOL, I hadn't heard that, but it's hilarious. I can't see him getting married unless it was a political match, and then only with a partner who was also a major cranky pants. It's also why I can't ship him with anyone, especially not Lan Xichen!

Yeah, that's a good point. I get frustrated personally with JC, but it's interesting how he loves his sister and adopted brother, but everyone else can die in a fire (with broken legs).

Come on now, threatening to break legs is his love language. His enemies can just die.

LOLOL, so true!

And his nephew! Actually the fact that he’s so flawed but loves his family is what makes me love him a little.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-23 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I do love that about him, yes.

There was an entire thing about his list of requirements for potential partners being so unreasonable that nobody would meet them anyway. And even if someone met those standards, they'd be super turned off by his shitty character haha!

I like that he has those weaknesses, though. It makes him a more rounded character who tries but still falls short when pressed. We also know exactly where all his insecurities come from (thanks, parents) so it's not like it's out of nowhere that this is his characterization. He's a mess and I love it.

Yes, this is a very good point. I'll try to be more patient with JC. :-}

This.

He’s my favorite, but I understand why people don’t like him. His issues are the ones that always struck me as the most realistic. He’s carrying around the scars of a lifetime of parental abuse and neglect and people making choices for him without ever telling him the whole story. He’s a dick, 100%, but he’s got a lot to be angry about. Idk. I love this angry grape.

+1 He's a mess but an understandable mess and I love him for it.
