Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:03 am (UTC)(link)What makes a title or series name bad or corny to you?
I personally can't stand it when there's clearly a sense of gravitas
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:19 am (UTC)(link)Best fic title? Can't really think of any brilliant ones off the bat. Most fic titles are good enough, but every now and then I run into one that makes me wonder why the author couldn't be bothered to try.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)5 times ... + 1 time ...
the one with the ...
[name of popular song]
and anything else I've seen too many times.
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
I killed a clown. AMA! [IT fic told entirely thought the medium of Reddit posts and comments]
Soldier's Heart [Downton Abbey fic, title is a period term for what we'd call PTSD]
the mist that cloaks the river, the clouds that hide the stars [Nirvana in Fire]
Personally I love the dramatic, poetic titles. To each their own.
I think I only hate titles that are misspelled, because it's like... You couldn't even try that much? It wasn't worth that much effort?
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)Lol I like that first title and premise!
The second title too, although at first I misread it as "Now that's what I call PTSD!" à la "Now that's what I call music" lol
If I'm into the story, and it is dramatic, I don't mind it too much, but I do roll my eyes, because quite often, at least with some authors, there's a sense of pretentiousness, like they're out here writing the manual to life or something. I don't mind someone taking their writing of a fix seriously, I think it's great your attention to detail etc. It's just certain titles (and A/N along with it) tend to make me think you drank your own Kool aid.)
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:28 am (UTC)(link)Bad: When a fic title is an inverse variation of a media property's title. For example, a 'The Dark Crystal' fanfic being named 'The Light Crystal'.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)1. Pretentious titles; or
2. So unrelated to the actual subject of the fic that I can never remember which fic it is from the title alone (when rereading on my kindle)
To me the best fic titles are snappy and appropriate - because then I can usually remember them lol
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
(Anonymous) 2020-08-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)I think the only 'bad' fic titles are the ones that are a length of a paragraph like an old school FallOut Boy song title.
Re: Best/Worst Fic Titles
Worst: "Dean Winchester Fucks a Pregnant Woman" which is actually a very poignant fic with good characterization.
