Re: Advice thread

I've dealt with a lot of addictions in my time. Unfortunately I'm not sure my advice is going to help due to the way I've lived my life...
Originally, so long as I had something left, I knew I was good just in the case of an emergency. That was enough to get me by.
Later on I started another addiction, but as I separated my life through different meanings I never recognized my withdrawal for what it was. It was always a shock to remember that my stomach ache was due to drinking the night before and wasn't just natural.

As a whole my best advice is to recognize the addiction for what it is. It's hard to give advice without knowing what addiction you might have, but my advice is to focus on why you feel the need rather than the need itself. Taking another hit will only further the hurt you're already trying to surpass. It's the cause of your pain, not the solution. It's draw is simply the venom in your veins attempting to spread it's poison onward.

I remember the time I nearly lost my mind, the death of a friend, the way I found out, and the complete lack of regard from those around me. Mentally I never really recovered, but I swore of smokes cold turkey. While I wasn't a pack a day, I smoked as much while hiding in the corners of my workshop. It was a resolution of sorts, and while nothing else worked out I haven't touched a cigarette since.

The best way to resist a yearning is distraction and recognition. Knowing that it's the addiction manipulating your body, and not your body's means. To ask yourself the question, even at the smallest urge, if this is you who's calling the shots, or if it's the drug attempting to manipulate you. Must like how you could deal with anxiety. By asking yourself and analyzing why you do what you do, if it is your own choice of by the inflection of something else.

I sincerely hope this helps. My mind seems to revolve around it's own orbit, but I have experienced, seen, and dealt with addictions of my own and may of my friends in the past. These are only my own thoughts, and if you think there's anything I can say that could help, I'm open to all questions. Whatever you need.
