But... they are pronounced the same?

I literally just sat here saying both out loud and they sound the exact same.

It's probably possible to slightly stress the '-cans' to make it clear it's not evil fungus, which seems important in a radio ad... but I'm loling at the mental image anyway

Maybe they pronounce Lichens like Ly-chens and Lycans like Like-ans.
That's how I pronounce them...

Same, and I came here to see if anyone else was gonna make that comment. I can now stop feeling insufficiently educated. (Because I acquired a lot of my vocab from reading, I learned the pronunciation of some words rather late.)
