NAYRT, but I've lived in the US and I've lived in other countries. It seriously depends on what they're telling you is hellish. Are they appalled about 'isms? Yeah, most of them have at least as much casual racism and sexism as the US, although in some places it manifests differently. Are they horrified that you can go into crippling debt for needing an ambulance and that any idiot with a driver's license can buy a semi-automatic off the back of a pickup truck at a gun show in major swathes of the country? Yeah, no, that's on us. If it bothers you, do something to fix it.
