I had a similar thing OP.

It was also the only thing i have ever liked Martin Freeman in.

I'm re-watching the TV show (again) now! I think season 1 is the best, this is despite the fact that with every re-watch Martin Freeman's lack of range bothers me even more. But then you get Billy Bob Thornton making up for it.

Season 2 still good. A bit of a step down for me but I enjoyed the 70s setting. Still enough Fargo beats that it works well enough.

Season 3...I remember when I first watched this I found it odd by comparison. There's bits I like but the whole picture doesn't click for me. Like, I love the episode with the wee robot sci-fi story, Ewan McGregor's performance is alright throughout (though I thought he was stronger as Ray) and I really enjoyed the part where Nikki teams up with Wrench from season one... buuuut I'm irritated by David Thewlis basically any time he's on screen. And the uncompromising henchman of an "other" origin (Yuri in season 3) seems overdone by this point. It's like they're constantly trying to recreate Malvo without realising why that was so awesome in the first place.

I'll give season 4 a go though. I didn't hate season 3 so I already don't expect the worst.
