I wouldn't call modern fandom "dumb" but I definitely am reaching the age where the lack of long-term perspective, well-intentioned dramatics, and inadvertent sense of self-importance a lot of fans have is becoming eyeroll-inducing. There's nothing wrong with young fandom; young fandom is just young. Time will chill most of them out.
