Yeah, when that scene first happened I was like, Oh! Yes! But I didn't let myself get too excited, because at that point Joe's character was still being portrayed as so coldly manipulative that I was worried they'd walk it back later and go, "Oh, he's not bisexual; he'll just fuck a dude if he has to in order to get what he wants." (That would've been...not great. So I was very relieved they didn't go that way.)

And then I was pleased that they brought in his ex and added some real depth to the portrayal of his sexuality.

And yeah, you're right. I guess it is more groundbreaking than I really registered at the time. I think because Joe becomes less central after S1, I kind of forget that they full-on made their male lead bisexual. I keep thinking of it as they made one character in an ensemble bisexual (which is still good, but less of a huge deal). But at the time he was definitely the main lead. That is a pretty big deal.
