I've been around the hyperfixation block enough times to know that a new one will find me when it finds me. So I don't really try to avoid it. I have in the past, but it never works. Because I don't think it's finding the right thing that causes me to hyperfixate. I think it's a certain amount of detachment from the current hyperfixation that causes my psyche to latch onto a new one.

But I definitely know the feeling of, like, wanting really badly to stay with the current thing, and being sad that you know you're going to move on eventually.
