Out of those...um. I find most F/K fic to be either hopelessly optimistic or totally out of character--but it's almost impossible to do a proper fic right with what CLAMP's given us. Karen/Aoki I like in an ONLY UNREQUITED WAY. If they ever got together, I'd be too disappointed in them both to enjoy it. Satsuki/Yuuto is okay, and I enjoy fluff!Keiichi/Kamui. I like Yuzu/Kusanagi IN A FEW YEARS. I actually ship Kakyou/Hokuto a stupid amount, but it makes me b'awwwww whenever I think about it too much. So I avoid it.

And I'm pretty sure that Kamui/Subaru is the only pairing I abhor. They both deserve better than that. Subaru made it pretty apparent that Seishirou is and always will be the most important thing to him...so he'd probably be with Kamui out of guilt or because he's settling for less. And. Yeah. They both deserve more than that. Neither one would be able to be truly happy. :( I'm cool with masochism (lol S/S), but. That's just depressing and somewhat headdesk-tastic. IMHO, ANYWAY. X fans can have epic shipwars. XD''

Yeah, that's exactly why I feel so awkward/guilty about liking it.

Which... really just as much applies to Seishirou/Subaru, imo (and yet I ship both pairings, wtf is wrong with me). And with the whole Sei dying thing on top of it... I really think that together, the two of them (well, more like Kamui) could actually get Subaru to be a little more functional again. It'd take a long freakin' time and an incredibly daunting amount of hard work and coaxing and nudging, and to be perfectly honest I friend-ship it way more than I romantic-ship it, but I think they could be at least a little happy together, eventually. (But then, I've never held much stock in the whole "Only One True Love" thing.)

But hey, that's just me. All I can really say is I'm a Subaru fangirl, and I go to S/S for dark and twisted and creepy and K/S for light 'n' fluffy and thoroughly enjoy both.

As for the rest... I. I just don't know. I think the important part wasn't Seishirou dying; it was Subaru leaving Kamui to go be one of the bad guys out to destroy the world--just because he wanted a small part of Seishirou. I honestly think that to think that any of that could be reversed when Subaru so utterly wants it...kind of cheapens his own fucked up emotions. I wouldn't really say that S/S is love, per se... More like mutual obsession. It's not healthy, and it's not breakable. (Especially because I don't think Subaru wants to...) Actually, if I really had to assign love to either of them, I'd say that Seishirou probably loves Subaru more. (JUST MY OPINION!!) I mean, Subaru fell in love with a act and then grew obsessed with a lost chance and his own pain. Seishirou, on the other hand, knew exactly what was going on. He's just a douche.

I love Kamui and all...but I just don't think he could change Subaru. I mean, Subaru's already shown that he's just far too attached to his obsession with Seishirou. I don't think it's healthy, and I don't think it's love--but I don't think it's changeable. :( Subaru, you're dumb.

TL;DR, SUBARU'S TOO FUCKED UP TO EVER BE IN ANY SEMBLANCE OF A REAL RELATIONSHIP. BECAUSE SEISHIROU IS A POSSESSIVE DOUCHE WHO PURPOSEFULLY WRECKED HIM FOR ANYONE ELSE. :(((

Yeah, I don't think that S/S is a healthy or non-depressing pairing, either. But it's not supposed to be. S/K is considered to be fluffy. :( Which is why I can't like it. S/S is honest and brutal. S/K is a band-aid for a deep wound. ~~LIKE A MISSING EYE~~ sry had to say it

I think the important part wasn't Seishirou dying; it was Subaru leaving Kamui to go be one of the bad guys out to destroy the world--just because he wanted a small part of Seishirou.

But even though Subaru fills Seishirou's position as a Dragon of Earth, it's by obligation, a secondary side effect of taking the eye, not by choice; he essentially sits on the sidelines and just watches, which he never did as a Dragon of Heaven. Yes, he left Kamui and the Dragons of Heaven while in mourning for Seishirou. Yes, he accepted the burden of Seishirou's role as Sakurazukamori just so he could hold onto that little piece of him. But even with all of that, it's still obvious that he's not throwing himself wholeheartedly into his new role, still obvious that Subaru cares about Kamui, even if he did say "there is nothing more that I want to do." Fuuma even comments on it towards the end of volume 18: "You seem to be very interested in 'Kamui's' affairs. Not me, but the other one." And it's Subaru's comments in the final battle that nudge Kamui towards that Obviously Really Important Realization that we still haven't been made privy to (dammit, CLAMP).

I agree with this completely. Even so, though, the way I see K/S... it's not about changing Subaru's feelings for Seishirou, or getting him to abandon them. It's about learning to cope with loss and grief and very slowly, very gradually, accepting it -- the same way Subaru did with Hokuto all those years ago. Subaru will never stop loving Seishirou, and CLAMP has made it clear that Kamui won't try to stop him in that. But despite Seishirou being the elephant in the room, the two of them still care about each other, and their actions in canon reflect that. Whether that caring is strictly friendly or, just possibly, has even a tiny chance of growing into something more... well, hey, exploring that's part of the fun of fandom, you know? :D

...though I wish there were more people in the fandom who were into the exploring aspect of things. Come on, there've gotta be more folks around who've pondered S/S/K -- it'd be so much fun to play with~
