What's a pocket girl? Urban dictionary failed me for the very first time.

A girl so small she fits in your pocket so that you can take her anywhere and pull her out at any time you want. Generally speaking, 5'3"ish and under qualifies a pocket girl.

Huh? 5'3" isn't even a full standard deviation below average height for an adult female. About 27.4% of the female population is that short or shorter. You're not noticeably shorter than average in a crowd until 5'2". Yeah, I know Sir Mix-A-Lot was confused about it, too, but really, 5' 3" is not particularly short. (I'm 5' 4.5", which is pretty much exactly average. Also, I am a HUGE FREAKIN' NERD, because I went and got my calculator to get that percentile. Although I could have used a standard normal table instead, since there's one in the next room. Yes, I used to teach AP Stats, whatcher point? :-/ )

Wow. Well, I did say 5'3"ISH. And I'm 5'7", so to me, even that is short. Are we really usually that small? I don't think I know any who are actually shorter than me.

Yup. It varies a little from country to country - the Scandinavians are a little taller than world average, for instance - but the average height of an adult woman from the US or Canada is 5 feet 4.5 inches. I believe most of Europe is about the same. I'm sure Google could be coaxed into giving some regional figures. Just for comparison, the average US/Canadian male is 5 feet 10 inches, which I'm going to guess is also going to strike you as short. (It amuses me that I am exactly female average, and my father is exactly male average, but my three sibs are all at least a standard deviation away from the mean.)
