Why do JB's female characters lose all their personality except big eyes and dimples as soon as they set their eyes on Harry?

Demeter is so tragic. I like to think he found out about her betrayal shortly after his misadventure and still keeps her employed and safe because he can't turn off the guilt. Ever.

I COMPLETELY AGREE RE: Harry's girlfriends and Johnnie's employment habits. I want desperately to know MOAR about his visits to comagirl and and and I just ... my favorite in the series is Death Masks. ♥ I will never recover from that one. The coins and the fighting and the tentative alliance and the life-saving in the river and Harry realizing he can't hate Johnnie and aslkdfjalskjdfaljf.

Oh, Death Masks. HOW did I love that book.

And it's a little telling that after Harry saw the big dark thing that made John tick, and realized the guy was human after all, that he was back to saying 'Criminal scum! Loathe! Detest!" very loudly within a few books.

It's a little like he's afraid they're friends.

He is afraid they're friends. He's trying really hard because he doesn't want anybody to see how much they actually secretly get along. And Johnnie goes through the motions with him to humor him, and because he's busy and fighting about it is time-consuming.

♥ I mean, the exchange in White Night where he asks John for help is really evidence of that. With a cherry on top.

I also think to a point Harry is worried about what his being friends with Marcone will mean for his policework. Murph certainly would take issue with it, even if he weren't on her payroll.

Oh, man, White Night. They BANTERED. You have to wonder how long it's been since John's met someone with the balls to BANTER with him like they do. They would give each other indian burns if they could.

GUH, they're like schoolboys. Always one-upping. I think John enjoys it, frankly, and lust for power isn't the only reason he got his fingers into a magical pie.

A-and now I'm reading this fic and and and. The voice is spot on and I WILL BE IN MY BUNK. ♥

Lust for power-- and the whole 'if I hide under the blankets the vampires will NOT go away and they will STILL have a monopoly in my city'. Thaaaat's got to harsh your mallow.

Well, it's his city now, more officially. Which, for the record, Harry does not approve of in the slightest. I also love that Harry still has no idea how John knows so much about magic; the soulgaze thing still has to be explained.

Ah, yes. The soulgaze "thing".

John so had a mental jawdrop after the soulgaze. I mean... two shadows? All that power and darkness and fire? That had to be pretty damn cool.

He's just good enough not to look like a gaping doofus (unlike wizards we know).

The man has self-control in spades. Which is why it's so... exciting to see him lose it. GAH.

Harry just never thought he'd be the one getting LESS information out of a soulgaze - he got so uncomfortable afterwords! Like he'd lost something, or been violated. WHICH IS AWESOME. The whole way they interact is like this ridiculous dance.

Now I want to write fic.
