Oh fuck yes, I agree with everything about this secret. OK, maybe not farther than the best SF novels, but definitely into similar territories of wow and sensawunda.

I totally agree!

I think it's a quality of kink in general - you can really push up against the limits of normal everyday human possibility and experience, and good fic that explores that is fascinating. I think it's also something that plays *really* well with genre tropes - sf/f/horror provides lots of opportunities for weird-mind expanding stuff on its own, but when you combine it with kink, you can get some really incredible stuff. Finding fics that scratch that itch is such a good outcome, it makes it worth all of the cookie-cutter fic you have to wade through to find it.

I also think fics like that are really hot, of course.
