Anon who commented above you--at least she's an improvement, brains-wise, over comics Abby, but I don't think anyone on the show was written in a way that showed, rather than told, the audience that they were all that smart.

And I don't think the actress had much input into how her character was made up. I didn't notice that she simpered or pouted a lot, I think she probably just has, well, resting pouty face. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the actress was hired at least partially because of her looks, though. Never seen her in anything else.
