OK I know this is nuts but hear me out. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe the authors are helpless, dependent, needy subs writing idfic where they get the service top of their dreams?

Actually, I've never really considered that (not being sarcastic or anything). But sure, maybe that's a subset of the authors writing it. But I'm just looking for the other side (I usually end up writing the kind of fic I'm looking for if I can't find it. It's just nice to read something you don't already know since you made it ). I want a bratty sub, if we're going by those dynamics.

I would like to see a character who resists someone taking care of them for any/various reasons (pride, used to being the provider, trust issues, etc.) In a situation you could consider sugar daddy/sugar baby, but isn't explicitly so -- Character X is the friend of Character A's parents, and when A falls on hard times...that kind of thing. It doesn't have to be an explicitly "sugary" situation.

No shade to people who are in for it to see full service, as you said, I just gotta keep looking until I find what I want !

Well hot damn, the way you describe it sounds hot af to me, and I hope you do end up writing it, and I end up stumbling across it.

You might also consider making posts about it on whatever platform, being enthusiastic about what you like about it? Generally people respond better to that than "why do y'all always write the same old stuff."

Well, I'm flattered you find it hot lol perhaps I will write this...uhh do you have any pairings you'd like to see like that? I draw inspiration from many sources, and while my usual pairings are particular, writing for others sometimes gets the gears in motion!

I was definitely complaining lol phrasing can go a long way in getting what you want. I would Cross post, but between this and AO3, I'm not active on any platforms, alas.

It's not really my kink, but I completely sympathise with the annoyance of 'this is *almost* my thing, but not quite', and it's just... very frustrating sometimes.
Good luck finding your desired dynamic! Perhaps consider pairings that involve a tsundere type?

NA - I just wanna say, as someone who isnt into sugar daddy fic at all, your version of it sounds awesome and I'd read the hell out of it.

I don't read daddy kinks so I'm probably just ill informed, but I thought the point of a sugar daddy was to take care of all the whims and needs of who they're sugaring?

Yeah, that's the gist. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. But I just want to see a situation where the person being taken care of needs time to accept that care. Resists that care. Maybe even throws it back in their face. It doesn't have to be an explicitly sugar situation. It's the particular age gap/power imbalance along with that care and resistance that I'm looking for -- more than just a PWP.

I'm just tired of seeing the same demure female thrust into power imbalance with older wealthy man who wants to treat her being read as SUB that must be it! SUB! like the person can't be feisty, resist the care, etc. Which is totally fine, and generally the trope, it's just something I'm not looking for ATM within the trope. Shift in dynamics within the trope? I'm probably gonna have to write what I want to see lol

That does sound interesting! I kinda like it myself. I'm curious if there isn't a lesser known trope that fits that subset? I don't know of any myself, but it fits in a subversion of sorts so I have to imagine the trope exists elsewhere? Bah, either way, I hope you find what your looking for OP! I feel we have so much 'write it yourself' opinions on here that they have to exist somewhere! Good luck!

FWIW you might enjoy the Finder manga series. Pushy, bright, motivated young photographer bites off more than he can chew when a charming, indulgent Yakuza boss falls for him. The kid keeps getting into trouble, which is partly the boss's fault, but he's highly resistant to the obligation the boss tries to imply every time he helps him out. It's good shit.

Just to clarify, there's a decent amount of physical restraint and some very dubious consent in the main pairing to start with, but it's a narrative moving fast from 'screwing with that annoying brat who keeps ignoring social conventions to expose me' to 'fuck I'm in love with this kid and that makes me slightly weaker than I was before' to 'we're actually amazing together, this is the absolute tits.' Blatant noncon when other characters are involved. Hurt/comfort done very thoroughly. Sorry if spoilers, but worth warning you if any of that could be an issue. It's obvious kink stuff, but reasonably responsible about it.

Lol Honestly, you had me with the first description, but the bits of "summary" are really the icing on the cake, so I have my manga for the week/however long it will take me to read!

I understand why, that the helpless and needy Sugar Baby is very much part of the kink for many writers, but like you, I prefer some uncertainty or reluctance or bewilderment from the Sugar Baby. The very dependent Sugar Baby right off the bat often feels out of character to me for many of the characters I like.

I don't know how you feel about Hannibal or Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter (FBI profiler with issues and abilities that make him vulnerable/cannibalistic serial killer who likes to play mind games) in particular, but this series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/452866) by emungere might be up your alley.

Ooooo. I'm going to have to look into this series. I have been planning on watching Hannibal for a while now, so bookmarking for later. I know their relationship is...complicated and messed up in ways, so that's an extra kick I like.

Yeah, I think dependency of the bat is a perfect way of explaining it. There's plenty of characters that would feel uncomfortable/reluctant to let anyone help them, much less take care of them (financially, emotionally, etc.). I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the deviation of this trope/kink.

OP, I don't know if you are familiar with the buffyverse, but there is a faith/wesley fic that you might like. It's an AU, and has a boss/employee dynamic, along with heavy bdsm and some light sugar daddy content. Faith resists it at first, and their relationship starts out very unhealthy.
