A legitimate concept? Oh damn, now I know this comm is filled with trigger happy 'mericans.

Yes, cultural appropriation is an actual legitimate thing. If you need proof, just look at Columbus. He was just some lost racist fuck who was looking for India. When he 'founded' North America he genuinely thought he found a roundabout way to India, hence Native Americans being ignorantly called "Indian's" still today when they have nothing to do with India.

When someone or some group appropriates, or if your ignorance is too apparent to even know what that might mean, is when someone from a distant culture/religion/era collectively takes an image/object/ideal/style from another without said cultures value/importance associated with it. Most often used in ignorance or in dismissal to the appropriated culture for the entertainment/leisure of the people appropriating.

Like when people used to keep sarcophagus' as conversation pieces, or say grind up a mummy to place in certain slaves like how people drink gold flakes today. It's a sheer form or betterment one culture places over another for whatever reason.
