nayrt but I don't think those are the same thing at all. The wendigo isn't just some scary campfire monster, and it's definitely not the equivalent of "incestuous mutant hill people". Also, I think if OP is attracted to the concept of the wendigo in particular, just substituting some random cryptid isn't going to be the same. It's like telling someone that instead of writing about vampires, they should write about zombies instead because they're basically the same thing when they're definitely not.
