These are characters, not sex dolls, tell us what they're feeling and thinking and experiencing

Agree. I feel like good smut is something that takes some practice. I know all writing does but I also know from experience that writing a good sex scene didn't happen overnight. I had to learn how to balance the mechanics of the act with making sure it was ACTUALLY hot because much of the hotness comes from what the characters are thinking and feeling. Not just emotionally but what they can touch, hear, etc.

I don't need flowery declarations of love. Just some indication that it's actual human beings fucking. I know it's fantasy and the idea of being horny beyond all reason that you just need to get down to it has a certain appeal but I still don't like smut that goes from kissing straight to penetration with basically *nothing* in the middle.

Honestly, even that can work for me, as long as the writer puts in the effort to justify it and explain why that's hot to the characters and what's driving it. Really emphasize how horned up they are, more than the physical descriptions of what's going on. Lean into how rough and ready it is (or whatever other characteristics the scene has).
