It's basically impossible to give Holmes characters a satisfying romantic partner other than Watson. It never works. People should just stop trying. Either go Holmes/Watson, or have Holmes be single and Watson can go have romantic relationships.

(In the case of House they should clearly have gone House/Wilson)

In the case of House they should clearly have gone House/Wilson

Since it ends with them riding off into the sunset together, you could argue they sort of did, if in a probably platonic way (and an unhappy way since Wilson was dying). Since I only slightly shipped them that was fine with me (well, not the dying and faked death part).
