I know some authors are uncomfortable with fic being written of their characters, but they just request that nobody send them any, not outright forbid anybody from writing it. But it’s one thing to politely ask people not to send them fics and it’s quite another for an author to go on a long tangent about how evil fic is and to forbid people from writing any.

Authors/TV writers don't want fic sent to them for legal reasons; they can't read it and if something's similar in a later installment, they don't want accusations of plagiarism.

I sure as shit would read fic if I wrote a closed canon, though. I've spent too long in fandom to resist this.

NAYRT

Same with that last bit.

I would never read fic of something I wrote. I wouldn't go anywhere near the fandom. I'd hire a professional PR firm to handle my social media obligations/expectations and make whatever necessary appearances were required of me.

DA I would so read fic of something I’d written, but I’d definitely wait until I was done writing the books. I’d definitely hire a PR team to manage my social media though because I’ve seen way too many authors stick their feet in their mouths.
