...wait, there's an English-language fandom?

120 - The 'bishie' and 'yaoi' thing again. Dammit, I can't shake the feeling that it's me who's doing it wrong. Or am I a mindless fangirl if I came for the crack and stayed for the crack and the moe? Besides, the series doesn't depend on the fandom at all (except for the specials maybe but you wouldn't like them anyway). You CAN just read the source and ignore the rest. I have male friends (YES PEOPLE, GUYS LIKE HETALIA AS WELL) who do exactly that and they seem to be doing fine.

(Btw, I wonder why so many people act as if this were the only fandom where people like bishies and yaoi. Also, I bet that if the series featured moe girls instead of moe guys nobody would have a problem with it.)

(Btw #2, this fanart is pretty but it's getting boring... plz to be using something else? Preferrably something official.)

135 - Rabid Sheryl fans irritated me when they bashed Ranka and her fans every time they could. I mean, damn, am I a lolicon now for liking Ranka? (And is Sheryl a lolicon in my mind for totally getting it on with Ranka?)

You mean Strike Witches, which are a moe anthropomorphism of WW2 fighter jets who are loli-like and fly around with their panties out and sprout out kemonomimi and actually gayer than Hetalia?

Yeah, there's no secret how much an insult to history for that one, although the rumor that Chuck Yeager actually did a VA cameo makes me lol.

I don't visit 4ch but while I've seen Strike Witches bashed on blogs/etc, the reason for bashing was never "it's offensive!" and "you guys only like it for the loli and don't care about the implications, shame on you!" But I suppose SW is a bit more removed from reality... plus it's targeted at males and as such most f!s-ers haven't even heard of it.

Anyway, I can totally see why people wouldn't like Hetalia or why they would find it offensive, but the amount of hate it gets is ridiculous. Especially since other shows and series don't get any heat for being a) fangirl-friendly, b) potentially offensive. (Where are all the 'Allo 'Allo and Hogan's Heroes secrets about how these shows whitewashe history and ignore the horrors of WWII?)

Well then, it does get some heat. But I bet it's nothing compared to what Hetalia gets.

(And while we're at WWII, what about all those American movies about how it was the USA that won the war while Europe did nothing but cower in fear? Or all those movie that have Soviet bad guys but ignore the horrors that went on in the SU at the time for the sake of harmless entertainment? Where are the secrets about how offensive those are? Ah well...)
