I disagree. I've read plenty of children's literature from similar eras, and while there is certainly casual racism and misogyny in many of them too, I feel The Horse and his Boy is more racist than many others (the misogyny is less noticeable in comparison). I read it as a kid but didn't like it (because I found it dull, not the racism sadly), but re-read it as an adult and was shocked at how overt the racism was.
