Let me rephrase. Aren't there GOP senators in a vulnerable position? Who might not want to alienate independents?

Again, NOT been keeping up with politics recently, so genuinely asking here.

Let's take an example: Susan Collins of Maine.

Is it worth more to her to keep her word about not voting in a justice in an election year? Republicans would likely turn against her. Or will she break her vow? Independents might turn on her more than they already have, but she'll have both helped her party for a generation by putting a conservative in a "liberal" seat and guaranteed herself a cushy consulting gig after she gets voted out of office.

Given her record, I don't have much faith that she'll keep her word.
