If you're embarrassed to be wrong in front of your beta, it sounds like you're either approaching beta-ing with the wrong mindset or have the wrong beta. It sounds like you value your friend's input so I suppose they give valuable feedback, so just try to remember that they're there to help you, and are likely aware that you're going to make mistakes bc you don't have the cultural background. Which is why you're asking for their feedback.
I know this likely is just restating things you know, but it bears repeating. I beta for a non-British friend in a very British fandom and it's honestly a joy to read their stuff, and as corny as it sounds it's sometimes nice to be able to point something out that could be tweaked because it actually makes me feel useful.
