I hang out in a younger (source material started being published in 2014, anime popularized it in 2016) fandom that is only on twitter and tumblr (and mostly twitter since the nsfw ban on tumblr) so it is likely a matter of how the fandom interacts with itself and what environment it is on.

I don't think the people are genuinely 100% horny, and I have a number of friends/mutuals who don't do this horny all the time song and dance at all, but on twitter it's a rare day indeed when I don't see someone with the DN "(Character)'s cum rag" or a post that reads "I'd let (character) rearrange my insides", because that kind of behavior is what gets the clicks and everyone is addicted to clout these days.
