I do get a little annoyed when my friends (who beta my fic) say it needs some sex scenes or the romance won't come across as believable.

I am so sorry they do this, nonny. I'd genuinely encourage you to tell them to knock that shit off because that idea, that romance isn't "believable" without sex, can spread further and become harmful. Of course you don't have to, and nonetheless it sucks you have to hear that from your friends.
