A lot of people are extrapolating unfortunate assumptions about me that I never said or implied and that makes me sad!

Guys, I'm sex positive! I get horny! I am horny a lot! My friends and mutuals are lovely people who respect my boundaries when I get in a mood where I can't handle the horny.

I am way, way younger than most people on this comm seem to be: I'm 22, and I don't even have a DW account that I use. My fandom experience outside of discord servers with aforementioned friends is exclusively on twitter, where the blacklisting/muting features barely work consistently and no one really feels the need to tag "nsfw" - that's what I'm referring to when I say theres no escape from the horny. On a website where the tools you could use to curate your experience don't work and the culture generally doesn't think to tag properly, the only escape is to do as Covid has taught us so well and self isolate and log off.

So yeah, it just feels bad, and those are my feelings and I'm allowed to have and express them. I'm not telling anyone to stop doing what they're doing, I would never dream of it, and it really hurts that so many people here seem to be assuming I would or that I should just suck it up! I already do suck it up! Why else do you think I submit an anonymous secret that begins with "I hope this doesn't come off as shamey..."?

If you started your secret like that, maybe a part of you felt like maybe it was shamey?

Your opinion is increasingly of the norm on Twitter; I see far more people complaining about NSFW than actively supporting it, especially in your age group.

Have you considered changing where you experience fandom? Or just ditching social media altogether? This community and AO3 are my only fandom interactions and it feels magnificent.

I also ditched all my personal social media and life is much sweeter for it.

Nobody knows when you're horny or not. Don't expect them to. Yeah they're your feelings, only yours. We know what secrets are in this comm. don't get mad just because you opened up a range dialog that told you something you never wanted.

I didn't think you came off as shamey, I actually thought you worded it pretty well. Unfortunately its not surprising that some people get very defensive over anything that sound remotely like a criticism over something they hold dear, while putting their own assumptions over other peoples opinions.

I don't mind smut fics if they have an actual story to them - and even if they don't I just won't read it. It only gets annoying when trying to find gen fics and having to come across people who don't know how to tag their fics, or worse just use about every rage they can think of even if it REALLY doesn't apply to their fics.

*use about every tag

The comments have been very nice to you and for the most part haven't been insulting except for that one person who apologized.

The fact remains that your sexuality is incompatible with the majority of fandom. People are trying to explain to you why that is and why they enjoy what they enjoy. It's not a personal attack, it's users taking time out of their day to explain their side so that you can understand why fandom is like this.

>A lot of people are extrapolating unfortunate assumptions about me that I never said or implied and that makes me sad!

Need a fact check on that one chief.
