Re: Controversial Unpopular Opinions?

What I'm tired of is people conflating having a low sex drive with asexuality. If you are sexually attracted to other people and want to have sex with them on occasion but not all the time, you are not asexual. The two aren't the same.

I'm the anon talking about sex drive on the main secrets page. I don't know if you're saying this because of me, but in case you are, I want to be clear: I am ace AND I have a low sex drive. I was ace when my sex drive was higher, too.

I agree with you that low sex drive does not equal asexual. However, plenty of ace people also have low sex drives.

Not plenty, all. All asexuals have low sex drives. To be asexual means to have very limited to no interest in sex. If one is interested in sex, they are not asexual. Some sex drive indicates low libido.

JFC.

Sex drive has nothing to do with asexuality. An asexual could have a raging sex drive and they'd still be asexual. Being asexual is about attraction. It's about wanting to fuck people. You can have a high sex drive and still not want to fuck people.

This is basic shit.

Yes, I clarified that in the post below.

SA

Sex with other people, to clarify. One can be asexual and enjoy masterbating or engaging in other sex activities that do not involve a partner.

Okay, good. But like, not all ace people have low sex drives. Interest in having sex with people is not the same thing as sex drive. I get how that might be a tricky distinction for an allo person, because the way allo people experience sex drive tends to be that it makes them want to have sex.

The way I experience my sex drive is that it makes me want to read smut. Being horny has absolutely zero effect on my (complete lack of) desire to have sex with people. I'm zero percent interested in having sex with people, regardless of whether my libido is up or down.

No. I have never in my life felt even the slightest attraction to another human being, but I masturbate daily.

OK but that's not most people who are asexual. Conflating asexuality with a low sex drive is the thing that other people who don't believe in asexuality (even if they claim to, like our friend the thread OP) do when you tell them you're asexual, because one of the first things they'll say is "Are you sure you don't just have a low sex drive? Have you gotten that checked with your doctor?" And when you say no, there's a difference between asexuality and a low sex drive, they either decide you're not asexual because you don't have a low sex drive, or they'll repeat themselves like a broken record and tell you to see a doctor about your low sex drive.
