122. Why is this fandom again? Eh, i voted for Obama because he was closer to what I believed in, that and Sarah Palin and her ilk scare me.

155. What do you mean by "keep", because I really doubt the shipping is going to change with the movies.

175. You know, I agree, when people refer to a country by pronouns they usually do use she. (At least in songs the US is referred to as a she, I guess it is the same concept as ships being she's as well.) So, I don't see why all the countries have to be male either.

LOL, that's ok. I just compulsively attack GW fans when I see them. We're getting harder and harder to find in the last few years. Seed Destiny and 00 are getting all the love, but Iwill never love any characters like I did those 5 boys.

They aren't all male. There are eight girls.

How much is the total cast, and how important do they play in the plot, I am betting they probably aren't any of the major power countries though.

The stereotype of the US is that it's aggressive, arrogant, rash, lacking in common sense and intelligence, insensitive, and has a hero complex.

Sounds pretty typical male.

Regardless of "motherlands", if you think about what stereotypes are usually applied to countries, a lot of them would be male, if only because most of their leaders were male and their actions aggressive.

Sounds pretty typically male.

Only if you are absolutely attached to the idea of prescriptive binary gender attributes and roles. There is nothing in those traits that says that the character has to be male. And apparently there are female countries, it is just they tend to be in the background which is pretty typical.

Aggression is not limited to men, but then again that whole idea as a rule tends to turn me off.

Also technically they are originally countries which don't actually have gender, so yeah they didn't have to be male, but then again the whole thing sounds off to me, I have read enough series that relegate women to the background.

Uh...Hungary is is personified as a crazy-aggressive girl. So that kind of shoots your theory down.

Really, any of them could have been drawn as either sex (and I think Mr. "I'm the HERO!" U.S. would have been so much funnier as a Lady Liberty, but whatevs).

"and I think Mr. "I'm the HERO!" U.S. would have been so much funnier as a Lady Liberty, but whatevs"

OH GOD ME TOO.

I can imagine her as a kickass, honky-tonk cow girl with attitude who'll come in late for a war, but still will kick ass regardless. Even when all of the other countries in it are worn out.
"Man...this war is taking a long time.."
"Yeah...I'm thinkiing of surr-"
"DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS BITCHES BYAAAAAAA!"

Some female South American countries and African countries would be nice too.

175) Most of the characters are male but not all. And while I would 100% like more female characters the ones that are in the series are pretty awesome, especially Hungary.

Eh, they are pretty minor countries though? I mean does the plot tend to push them to the side? I don't know, Hetalia really doesn't appeal to me at all, and the lack of focal female characters is part of that lack of appeal.

Well there is no plot in the traditional sense of the word. There are just random short comic strips that focus on various aspects of history (well there are some that focus on modern issues as well). The focal character is the one that appears in that particular strip. I guess you can say the female characters don't appear enough but for example when Hungary appears in a strip she is definitely a prominent character in that particular strip.
