138. I was in a pern RP for years, canon-based, I forget what pass now... At Moonset Weyr. Anyway, the goldriders did have to earn their positions because rank in the Weyr/holds meant responsibility in the game, too, and to "earn" these, people had to prove they could fulfill the writing requirements. I don't see why you can't just be patient and earn what you want. It wasn't elitist, or it didn't feel like it, it was good organization. In my Weyr, anyway. I think you're denying yourself fun because you ONLY want to play your beloved character.

If you branch out and show the group you can live up to their expectations, you might have fun along the way. ^_~ Plus... there is always the fact that if you start with a "lesser" colour (and btw, greens/blues are just as awesome, most of my gaggle were blue), you can test-drive the Weyr while you settle in, and see if you really do like it.

And, well, in canon... golds ARE "omg so speshul." There's only up to around five in a Weyr. They can't be handing them out left and right. IMHO. (Note: I played in one Weyr, so my opinions are coloured by that one's structure.)

Hehe... remembering is making me want to RP again... I hope you can either find a Weyr that'll accomodate you or decide to start smaller... it was a lot of fun.

No, I get all the reasons why they don't just hand out golds. And since I've had this character for so long, she's got friends and family that are almost as fleshed out as she is that I could easily play.

But I can't tell you how many times I have been attacked just for mentioning that I already have a gold in mind, and ultimately that is what keeps me out of RP weyrs. Every single one I've been to has basically told me that I was an attention seeking whore for saying that my ultimate goal was goldrider, which doesn't make any sense to me because that seems like it'd be a common goal!

I even had one weyr tell me that they'd probably never give me gold just because I said I wanted one. And that just isn't an atmosphere I want to play in, even though I really do want to use this character.

Okay, that really does suck. There's no call to be rude about people with aspirations... they should WANT people to want stuff o_O or what's the point of playing?

That's vile, and I totally understand what you mean now. I personally never wanted a gold (too much pressure, eek!!) but I totally still wanted stuff, and if they'd told me flat-out I could never be a bronzerider/weyrlingmaster/whatever I'd've been damn put off too.
