Have you ever participated in a fandom event?

Big bangs, etc. How was your experience?

I've done one BB, like 4 reverse bangs, and various other writing events like Secret Santa or the like. They're really fun! Especially collaborative events are cool. Makes me wish I was still involved but I'm like 10 years out of Fandom now.

One big bang as an artist, one secret santa as a writer. Both experiences were a huge let down so I never did another.

I'm not a writer but did Art Yuletide a couple of times, it was nice

Signed up to do a pinch hit once, and only once.

Someone went full SJW because of a hateboner for the recip. As I was going through a crappy time in my life and had just wanted to write a fun story for someone, and not wanting to get scrutinised, written up and generally dissected - not to mention vivisected - I defaulted. Cue shocked amazement. The stories went live a couple of weeks late and the exchange didn't run this year.

Me, I'm not signing up for anything, ever again.

No. My anxiety is WAY too intense for something like that. It wouldn’t be fun for me, just stressful as hell.

I did YuleTide two years ago. Had mixed feelings over it. Will not attempt again. Exchanges are just not the thing for me.
I regularly do bingos, however. Less pressure, more freedom, more fun.

Varies. My experience with fic exchanges has mostly been pretty good.

I ended up in an event that required teamwork, and discovered that I loathe other people. Or, I loathe having to work with other people who have no conception of "doing things in a timely fashion" or "communication".

I've modded a fic exchange. We tried to screen for quality a little, requiring a beta (obviously that's hard to enforce but if a fic looked like it'd barely seen a spellcheck, we'd have a private word with the author), checking to see if someone had actually managed to rack up any kind of wordcount to screen out people who are blinded by wishful thinking, etc. It helps, but people are still unreliable af and it was like herding cats.

Secret Santas for fic. Mostly good experiences, but I fucked it up one year though and didn't deliver.

Did a Secret Santa and a Mini Bang. Secret Santa was poorly organized, and my recipient never acknowledged my story so I took their name off it after a few months. Mini Bang was fun! I think I was maybe the only person who met the original deadline, though. I was like, "They said finish by THIS DATE, so I will force myself to do it!" And then a few days before the mods were like, "Yeah, we've had a lot of messages from people freaking out so we're gonna move the date back." They loved me for being ready to go, though. XD

Have done several, and loved it. It was just so much fun, and waiting for your art/picking your art or prompt...all just intense and giddy.

I really enjoyed them, but I write too slowly now to participate - i know I won't finish to deadline, which sucks.

Not anything online. I've gone to cons, participated in panels and masquerades, and volunteered.

Once and I never had the urge to do another one again. Booo.
