(Anonymous) 2020-09-25 12:13 am (UTC)(link)It didn't read as mean to me, personally-I think the fact that Evans had a good sense of humor about it helped-I think he would've probably been more reserved in his commentary if there had been more serious circumstances around it. I also think he mainly did those jokes to try and lighten the mood-I feel like he was just happy to talk about a newsworthy story that didn't have to do with the batshit insanity that is our U.S. politics for a change. I did like his point about how the network wouldn't allow them to show the pic in question, even though half the commercials that air during his show are about how to maintain the very thing they don't want people seeing.
All of that being said, though, I do take your point as well, and I can see where the monologue would've come off rather excessive.

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to say Colbert was wrong to do that segment, but I think it's fair to say it was in questionable taste. And then it just hit me where I'm sensitive.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-25 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)No, yeah, totally understandable :). You make a valid point. And yeah, if it hits a particularly sensitive spot, it's even more understandable. I'm glad you brought another perspective to that.
