(Anonymous) 2020-09-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)Not kink shaming, just talking about personal squicks.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-27 02:33 am (UTC)(link)The thing is, a/b/o AUs don’t actually start from a place of biological determinism (they can, if the author wants them to, but it’s not inherent to the a/b/o premise). The fact of being an Omega dictates absolutely nothing at all about a character’s personality, interests, attitudes, behaviors, strengths, capacities, or the inherent dynamics of their interpersonal relationships.
Whereas D/s AUs start from a place of biological determinism. You can show subs being smart, strong, capable, brave, etc. But the universe dictates that, whatever else they are, they are submissive by nature. So if one isn’t into the biological determinism of it all, the trope probably just isn’t for them, because subverting said biological determinism is extremely difficult.
I’ve had a couple of ideas for D/s AUs I’d love to read, over the years. Ones that would deconstruct some of the squickier elements while still playing into the kinks to some extent. But I’m not much of a writer, I’m afraid--certainly not up to challenge an AU like that would pose.
