Like, when one character is actually old enough to be the other's father, and also there's vague father-figure tones to their canonical relationship

I can see that - I think it only works for me in Kingsman is because of the dynamics that are in place with the characters - it's not completely unfeasible. Having that as a starting point is key.

It's odd having to rethink what you thought you knew about yourself though!
