NAYRT: And there are those of us who think that the combination of Beauty and the Beast and Manic Pixie Dream Jedi behind Reylo didn't make narrative sense for the Ben and Rey we were shown.

Ideal ending: Rey becomes a Jedi Master, Kylo starts a 12-step program for recovering fascists, on opposite ends of the galaxy.

Well yeah, but anon and I weren't talking about people who didn't like Reylo. We were talking about the backlash--something a lot more vitriolic and hostile than "I don't like this; it doesn't work for me."

I agree with this, for the record. Kylo Ren's character as it's established in TFA makes him extremely ill-suited to the kind of bad-boy-turned-good storyline the next two movies adopt, IMO.

In TLJ he's this conflicted, confused, embittered bad boy teetering on the edge of all-out villainy. Which feels very disjointed from TFA, where he orders a village full of women and children to be murdered just because he can.

And fucking MURDERS HAN SOLO. Fuck Kylo Ren. They can redeem him all they want, I am never getting over that.

I don't even like Han (don't hate him, but he's not my fave) and I agree because I'm so sick of Kylo stans acting like Han was abusive to bb Kylo which makes the murder totally justified, you guys!

At the very worst, Han was a deadbeat, and I never figured out from the films whether the Han/Leia split came before or after their son went full school shooter and murdered his fellow students, which might just possibly put some strain on a relationship, you know?

He murdered his dad to prove he was enough of a conscienceless monster to join the evil league of evil, not because Han hurt his feefees.

My interpretation has always been that the Han/Leia split came about because of the stress of emotionally losing a child, which is actually pretty common.
