It did take me about 100 pages to properly get into Gideon so I'm keeping that in mind with the sequel! I'm still 100% interested in the story because of the things you mention and in no doubt I'll read the third book when it's out. The middle part of a trilogy often ends up being a weird actual half-way point anyway.
