I checked out mentally in season 3 tbh but I watched season 4 out of loyalty. After the train wreck that was the first episode of season 3, which basically called fans idiots for wanting a genuine solution to Sherlock's death, it was easy for me to accept that yep, those season 4 episodes really were what they offered up to us.

You are definitely not the dumb one in your story!
