I can understand it. He's a fan of one of the new Treks (aka Enterprise). Me? I love TOS, DS9, and VOY. The TOS movies are some of my favorites.

That's more or less it. The culture in the originals is AMAZING, and I'd love to get into them. But I'm visually shallow, and I can't watch bad special effects. But the new series aren't as good for the culture, and the storylines are rather weak, but I... can't stop watching them. Maybe it's because that's all I have...

You ought to check out the TOS Remastered episodes. They went back and redid the external special effects with modern techniques and they look pretty good. The interior shots are all the same, of course, but it looks better.
