JKR is responsible for the extended Harry Poter universe though, isn't she?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, especially that "wizards used to poop on the floor" thing

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand the outcry over this, the best part of history at school was learning about Roman toilets, Victorian toilets and about George II (who died on the toilet.) Kids love poop stuff, it's hilarious and British history does like to talk about toilets xD

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's stupid because of the whole recentness. It really feeds into the "wizards are stupid and backwards"

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean...as a Discworld fan, they kinda are.

The relieving yourself where you stood thing was a real historical thing, wasn't it? I'm sure I read accounts of the ladies of the court reeking of piss because they'd just go where they were and someone would clean it up.

I definitely know that there was always a chamber pot in the billiard room of grand houses so that the men didn't have to interrupt their game.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
There's historical context to it. People did just shit & piss everywhere.

https://www.history.com/.amp/news/royal-palace-life-hygiene-henry-viii

“Feces and urine were everywhere,” Eleanor Herman, author of The Royal Art of Poison, says of royal palaces. “Some courtiers didn't bother to look for a chamber pot but just dropped their britches and did their business—all of their business—in the staircase, the hallway, or the fireplace."

From the same article:

Despite its reputation for magnificence, life at Versailles, for both royals and servants, was no cleaner than the slum-like conditions in many European cities at the time. Women pulled up their skirts up to pee where they stood, while some men urinated off the balustrade in the middle of the royal chapel.

Right...like how does this person think it began to exist.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
OP might as well be straightforward about it and say that JKR being a transphobe doesn't bother them

TBH, plenty of other people have made that exact secret anyway so IDK why it would bother them or what this adds

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
All secrets are valid my friend.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
I can sympathize with the OP. I'm in multiple fandoms for works whose creators were nasty pieces of shit. As long as the canon remains enjoyable, I can still feel the hype. But if the creator sucks AND the canon begins to suck, then all the joy is sucked out of the fandom.

I'm personally in the opposite situation. World of Warcraft has recently started being more inclusive of POCs and LGBT people, but it's happening at the time when both the gameplay and the lore sucks major ass, so inclusivity alone doesn't make up for the shitty gaming experience, even though I'm LGBT myself. I wish it had happened at the time when I still enjoyed the game.

No guff to anyone, but I honestly just got bored of everything in the expanded universe as well. ‘Oh, there’s a play I can’t afford to go see? I’ll read the book. Don’t have the attention span to read the book, I’ll just skim the cliff notes or whatever? A website that has bios for every single background character that says my patronus is an animal that I have to google to know whatever the fuck it is? Sure, have your fun, I’ll be over here playing with my ponies. A new movie series of sixty four (being hyperbolic) 300 minute films based off spin off books that don’t really add anything to the universe outside of a villain that predates the main storyline that was only mentioned 2 or 3 times in the o.g 7 books? Suppppeeeeerrrrr...you do you, babe. Gotta....shave my roof...’

Business!Jo is just as much a detriment to enjoying Harry Potter as Casual!Jo.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
100% agreed.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm one of those people who can never get enough HP. Don't care what it is. Love the whole universe, I'm there.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
ngl I just ignore both and play in the universe in the original books.

OP

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
That was my comment on a secret originally. I did not want it made into a secret itself for fucks sake.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as we're getting submissions it shouldn't be a problem. It's anon anyway.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a problem for me. So what if it's anon? If this is a community where every comment is going to be taken as fair game regardless of context or the authors permission, that seems like a really shitty place to be.

We have secret makers threads where the permission is implicit. If I wanted my comment made into yet another goddamn JKR secret I would have posted it there.

You’re seriously whining about the sanctity of your anonymous comments on a public forum? Maybe the internet is not for you.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If you can't see the line that's been crossed here, no matter how small, then maybe being human isn't for you.

Secret maker here.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize. I thought it was a good comment and would make a good discussion counterpoint to a lot of the debate surrounding JKR and her Harry Potter legacy.

Re: Secret maker here.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Apology accepted. I'd be wary of taking people's comments. The last thing I would have done from my own POV was make another JKR secret. WHile I'm happy to voice my own opinion on other's secrets about it, I'd be happier to just see the whole subject die.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the extended universe, I couldn't care less about JK Rowling. I wish I did care more about her, but I just don't.
